Papermaker Pond – A stormwater management project
Construction began fall of 2025 on a new stormwater pond in the Sunset Beach area. The project is being completed to meet Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources standards for managing and mitigating the impacts of stormwater runoff. The pond will help reduce flooding and improve water quality by slowing stormwater flows and allowing sediment and other pollutants to settle before the water reaches the Fox River. In addition to the environmental benefits the material that is dug up will be used to berm and create a more natural, prairie environment around the stormwater pond and the swimming facility. Tree planting and prairie establishment will occur within the berm and pond areas of the project in spring of 2026.
Papermaker Pond will be located north of the Sunset Beach Swimming Facility in an underused area and will collect runoff from the neighborhoods west of the project site.
